Review: A Pirate's Life for Tea

A Pirate's Life for Tea A Pirate's Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

This is the first time that I think the reasons I DNF (did not finish) a book could be the reason someone else really enjoys it. I was more interested in the secondary plot than the developing love story the book ended up following. I enjoyed the writing and the silliness of Kianthe’s puns. I also liked that one of the new characters, Bobbie, crocheted. I almost kept reading just for that. Overall, this was just not the right book for me. This could be the right book for you if you like cozy fantasy books with a love story at the forefront.

Review: An Academy for Liars

An Academy for Liars An Academy for Liars by Alexis Henderson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was an atmospheric and intriguing read with rich world-building and a captivating storyline. The characters were well-developed, and the mystery kept me engaged, though the pacing was on the slower side. Despite that, the tension and eerie vibes made it a worthwhile read, and the payoff was satisfying. A compelling story that lingers long after the last page!

Review: The Cottage Around the Corner

The Cottage Around the Corner The Cottage Around the Corner by D.L. Soria
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I extremely wanted to love this book however, this felt like every witchy romcom that has come out in the last five years. I was expecting this to feel super cozy and whimsical, but was disappointed by how modernly relevant it was. Personally, I feel like this book was marketed as a cozy fantasy and for me it was giving the vibes of a pop culture saturated Sabrina, the teenage witch. This might be the perfect book for others, but unfortunately, not me.

Review: House of Beating Wings

House of Beating Wings House of Beating Wings by Olivia Wildenstein
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My biggest pet peeve with this one was that it felt a tad too long. I think that the author could have cut anywhere from 50-100 pages out and it would have been faster paced and more engaging to read. That being said I still enjoyed it. The magical system and setting worked well for the story and I think that how the characters started works well so they can grow over the course of the series.

Review: The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King

The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is an absolute gem in the fantasy genre, a spellbinding tapestry of adventure, intricate world-building, and characters that will grip your heart from the very first page.

I couldn’t put this book down! From the gripping opening to the heart-stopping cliffhanger, Carissa Broadbent weaves a tale that resonates with passion and depth. The protagonist’s journey to confront the enigmatic Star-Cursed King is not just a quest; it’s a visceral experience that had me turning pages late into the night, eager to unravel every mystery and share in every triumph.

Carissa Broadbent’s world-building is nothing short of breathtaking. Each landscape is vividly painted, each magical system intricately woven into the fabric of the story. I felt transported to a realm where magic pulses with life, where every decision carries weight, and where danger and wonder coexist in mesmerizing harmony.

But it’s the emotional depth of The Ashes and The Star-Cursed King that truly sets it apart. Themes of sacrifice, redemption, and the enduring power of hope resonate powerfully through the characters’ struggles and triumphs. I found myself cheering for their victories, shedding tears at their losses, and ultimately, feeling enriched by the profound journey they undertake.
